Kidderminster v Exeter City

The Grecians' start the game making a couple of changes to the game from Tuesday night with Tomlinson, Flack and Buckle coming into the line up with Breslan dropping to the bench and Ampadu missing out due to an injury. City, in the change purple strip start the game attacking the end where the Kiddy fans are situated.  The game as previously stated as being a passing affair doesn't seem to be going along with the script as the first few minutes the ball has spent all of its time in the air. Kidderminster are forcing the pressure in the early stages of the game with City being pinned back into our own half.  Nine minutes in sees City's first real chance when Roberts' broke on the left and outpaced Sall only to take the ball slightly too wide and see his shot go wide. From the kick out disaster, Ian Foster picked up the ball and ran through the defence and slotted the ball past Van Heusden to give Kiddy the lead in the eleventh minute. Sixteen minutes pass and Roberts wins a free kick in a very dangerous position.  The referee then advanced the free kick ten yards for the failure of the wall to retreat.  Up stepped Roscoe who put the ball into the wall to win the first corner of the game. From City's second corner Kiddy broke and the backtracking Roscoe slid in to meet the cross and nearly played the ball through his own net, fortunately the ball went wide of the post.  Ian Clarkson got the rebound eventually from a corner and played the ball straight into Van Heusden's arms. At present City seem to have no answer to Kidderminster, they seem to be able to break down the midfield and defence at will and are creating probably five chances for every one City chance.  Twenty nine minutes in and Kiddy should have doubled their advantage as Broughton broke down the right and played the ball back to an un-marked Colin Larkin who scuffed his shot. Just two minutes later and Kiddy's persistence paid off as Larkin this time broke down the left and pulled the ball back to Drewe Broughton who made no mistakes in putting the ball past Van Heusden. Two-Nil Kiddy. Thirty nine minutes and a right wing cross from McConnell fell to Steve Flack who seemed to stand there with the ball at his feet for an age before deciding what to do.  Eventually he had a shot but hit it straight into the defence.  Christian Roberts earnt himself a stupid booking when he was adjudged offside and he kicked the ball out of play. A very strange decision as Power was obstructed and the ref gave a free kick in side the box, in my reckoning a foul in the box equals a penalty?  The free kick ended up striking a defender and going out for a free kick. City go in two down at the break, but they should count themselves lucky as it could so easily be four or five.  Lets hope things improve in the second half. City start the second half attacking the terracing where the two hundred Grecian fan's are situated.  City immediately look to go on the attack with Tommo breaking in the box and putting his shot just over the bar and into the stantion. City are awarded a penalty in the forty eighth minute when Sall (previously booked) needlessly handled the ball from a corner. Up stepped McConnell and smashed the ball into the back of the net to pull a goal back for City. An absolutely amazing transformation to the City team at the start of the second half compared to the team that was playing in the first half.  Some superb work by Cronin on the left flank led to the ball coming back to Power who didn't quite catch hold of the ball as he would have wished and he saw Brock comfortably collect the ball. Sixty minutes in and Cronin nearly get's the equalizer, some good work by Roberts on the right led to him slipping the ball in through the defence, as Cronin got a toe to the ball so did Brock and the ball was cleared away to safety. The first substitution comes in the sixty third minute when Steve Flack is replaced by Paul Read.  Twenty minutes gone in the second half and the advantage is firmly in City's court still.  As Kiddy dominated the first half, City are now dominating the second. Seventy two minutes and again City came close to the equaliser, getting the ball on the right wing he cut inside and struck an absolutely delightful left foot shot that had Brock beaten only to see the ball come back off of the angle. Ten minutes to go and Kiddy seem to be content to sit back and defend and soak up the never ending City pressure.  City make their second change in the eighty second with Breslan coming on for Tomlinson. Suddenly the killer blow in the eighty ninth minute as Ian Foster got the ball on the left channel and played a delightful lob over Van Heusden into the top corner to put the game beyond City and restore Kiddy's two goal lead. A disappointing day, the killer blow coming at the end of the game that City deserved at least a point from.  Join us again on Tuesday night when we travel to Luton Town.
