The Grecians' make the long trip to Brunton Park and Carlisle making a couple of changes with Andy Roscoe coming back into the team after the release of Lee Sharpe, Martin Thomas also comes in for the injured Justin Walker.
City start the game attacking the home end of the ground. After three minutes from a City free kick Carlisle went to the other end and had the ball in the back of the net but Brian Wake was yards offside to see it disallowed.
Again thirty seconds Graeme Power slipped and McDonaugh cracked a powerful effort that was superbly saved by Kevin Miller.Santos Gaia was booked after just six minutes by an overzealous referee for holding the striker.
The Grecians' first chance came after ten minutes as Roscoe cut in from the wing and passed to Goodman, getting the ball back on his weaker right foot he struck the ball about six yards wide of the Carlisle post.
Glenn Cronin was then booked after sixteen minutes by the referee who already looks like losing control of the game at this early point of the match. After nineteen minutes some good work around the box led to a driven shot by Thomas from twenty five yards that skimmed just over the cross bar.
Two minutes later and there was a goal mouth scramble with Flack just unable to get a final touch on the ball and he then got booked for apparently kicking the goalkeeper.Twenty two minutes and four bookings already.
Again couple of minutes later and Goodman was booked for leaving a leg dangling as Peter Murphy went past him.Thirty two minutes in and Coppinger crossed and one shot came back and Roscoe smashed the ball towards goal but the ball was blocked by the defence.
After thirty seven minutes Brian Wake turned Santos but saw his shot from eight yards dribble past the far post.Roscoe swung in a corner after forty one and Flacks' header came back of the crossbar resulting in another corner.
This time City got it right as Goodman came rushing towards the near post and he glanced a header inbetween the keeper and defender to give the Grecians' a deserved lead just before the half time interval.
Suddenly again City doubled the lead, winning a free kick outside the box the ball came back to Cronin who battled to the edge of the box and fed the ball to Santos who swung his left boot to see the ball nestle in the bottom corner.
Half Time Score: Carlisle United 0-2 Exeter City
The Grecians' start the second half attacking the end where the travelling faithful are situated and make no changes from the first half.Three minutes into the second half and Thomas again struck from the edge of the area to see his effort go just the wrong side of the post.
Andy Roscoe rattled the net after fifty seven minutes but the wrong side, cutting into the left side of the box the defenders stood and watched as he lashed a venomous effort into the side netting. The Grecians' now have Carlisle pinned in their own half and are back to playing the slick passing game that we saw at the start of the season.
Will MCDonagh had Carlisle's first shot of the second half with only twenty minutes to go but played it straight into the hands of Kevin Miller.Cronin also had a good shot after some link up play with Taylor, straight into the hands of Keen.
