Winger looking forward to big night at St James Park
Jake Taylor is expecting a tough test when Hull City visit St James Park this evening, but says Exeter City have a ‘massive’ chance of springing an upset in the EFL Cup second round match.Premier League Hull travel to Devon on the back of an impressive start to their season that has seen them beat English champions Leicester City and Swansea in their opening two matches.
Three divisions and eighty-eight places separate The Tigers and City, but Jake is not letting that stat convince him that they are not able to cause an upset.
“We have got a massive chance (of an upset),” said Jake. “We have been playing some good football so far this season and we are high on confidence after winning at the weekend. So, it is a good game for us to play in the cup and like I said we are really looking forward to it.”
City won 2-1 away at Accrington Stanley on Saturday – their first win of the League Two season – and Taylor says that has helped lift the pressure some the players were feeling in the dressing room.
However, the former Reading midfielder, also says City will take confidence from the fact that they beat Brentford – a side that was in the same division as Hull last season – at home in the EFL Cup first round this season.
“I think Brentford are a good Championship side and Hull City will be pretty similar,” said Jake. “Of course, they (Hull) are in the Premier League this year and they have few good results to start the season. It will be good to play against some good players in the opposition team and hopefully we can do ourselves justice and put in a good performance.
“They have played two and won two in the Premier League, so you know what kind of side they are from that. We know what we are in for and we will try and put as much pressure on them as possible and see what happens.”
Reduced ticket prices for the game have attracted a lot of attention and a big crowd is expected for the match that kicks-off at 7.45pm. Adults can get tickets from £15, students £5 and under-18s £2.
Jake says it will be great to play in front of a bumper crowd.
“You want to play in front of as many people as possible so hopefully they come to the game and, obviously, tickets are a little bit cheaper so it might be better for the crowd to come down. It will be a good atmosphere and everyone is looking forward to it.”
