Open dialogue with parents and school has helped City youngster
Exeter City manager Paul Tisdale says great support and open dialogue with Ethan Ampadu’s parents and his school have helped the youngster’s success in the first team.Ethan, who attends St Luke’s Science and Sports College in Exeter, hit the national headlines on August 9 when he made his debut for the Grecians aged 15 years, 10 months and 26 days. It made him the youngest ever player to make a first team appearances for City, breaking a record held by Cliff Bastin for 88 years.
Ethan starts back at St Luke’s on Monday, following his summer break, and while Tis admits it’s a first for him – losing a first team player from every day training so he can head back to school – he praised the support the college have provided.
“He is back to school on Monday which is a first, but we have got to be careful with him,” said Tis. “He has played particularly well, but we can’t expect him to keep playing game after game.
“He has played particularly well and its easier when everyone sensible and understanding. None of these things will work if you don’t have constant dialogue with the family and the school.
"St Luke’s College have been very, very supportive of Ethan and I'm sure they'll do the best to give him the opportunity when it comes up. And his family are very supportive in terms of allowing us to make the right decision for Ethan at the right time.
"There's no right way to do this, you've just got to talk and communicate and deal with each other in the right way."
