Exeter City to host charity match in memory of Eamonn Dolan

8 September 2016

Eamonn Dolan XI to take on combined Reading and West Ham United team on Sunday, October 23

Exeter City will host a charity football match in memory of Eamonn Dolan on Sunday, October 23.

Eamonn, who passed away at the age of 48 in the summer, is embedded in the history of our football club and held in such high-regard by City staff and fans.

His playing career with City was cut short due to illness. However, he remained at the club; taking on the role of head of Football in the Community, before becoming the Grecians’ first academy manager. Then, when the club was in a desperate state and in its hour of need, he became the first team manager.

Eamonn was there for City in one of the club’s most troubling times, laying the foundations for the excellent work the Football in the Community and the Exeter City Academy now does.

Everyone at our club understands the debt of gratitude owed to Eamonn and will get the chance to pay their respects and honour the great man on October 23.

The kick-off time for the game has yet to be confirmed, but it will see a team made up of players Eamonn has either developed, played with or managed take on a combined West Ham United and Reading XI – two clubs he has strong links from his playing and coaching days.

Tickets for the match will be £10 for adults and £5 for children, with the proceeds of the match going to Eamonn’s chosen cancer charities and the Academy.

There are sponsorship opportunities for the match as well, with all the proceeds going to charity. Anybody wishing to take up a match sponsorship, ball sponsorship, programme sponsorship or support the event in any way is asked to contact City’s head of commercial Mark Jenkins via email at mark.jenkins@ecfc.co.uk.
