FA Youth Cup: Exeter City v Wigan Athletic

25 November 2016

Fans urged to come and support under-18 side

Exeter City academy manager Simon Hayward has urged fans to come and support the under-18s when they take on Wigan Athletic in the FA Youth Cup on Tuesday, December 13.

The young Grecians made it into the third round of the competition after beating MK Dons 3-1 at St James Park on Friday, with the goals coming from Jack Sparkes, Max Smallcombe and Archie Collins.

That has now set up a tie against Wigan Athletic at St James Park, on Tuesday, December 13, at 7.30pm.

“I thought the lads played well,” said Simon. “I thought they deserved their win. I thought Dan (Green, Exeter City under-18s coach) did an excellent job preparing the lads for the game and making adjustments during the match and we are delighted to have another home tie in the third round.

“Yes, it would be fantastic to have some support for our young players. I think there are some good players in there who will hopefully follow in the footsteps of the likes of George Friend, Dean Moxey, Matt Grimes, Jordan Moore-Taylor and Ollie Watkins.

“We think there ae some more good players in there who will play a part in the first team in the future and it is always nice for those young lads to know they have got the support of the Exeter City fans.

“So it will be great to have a crowd in. We made the final of the league cup when Jordan Moore-Taylor was an under-18 and we had 1,400 in that night.

“I wouldn’t necessarily expect that for the third round of the against Wigan, but it would be nice to have a bigger crowd than we did for MK Dons and hopefully we can win another game and get another home tie and just continue to create interest from some of the Exeter fans.”

Ticket prices are as follows
