David Matthews and his son get a unique view of the Barnet match
The latest winner of the Exeter City Foundation’s 'money can't buy' prize of watching the match from the press box, was won by member David Matthews.David and son Ben attended the match on good Friday, this was how he saw things:
"As the lucky winner of the Foundation’s matchday in the press box, my son and I faced the bank holiday traffic chaos to travel to sunny Devon and watch the Good Friday match against Barnet from the Old Grandstand.
"Usually seated in the IP Office Main Stand, I was expecting things in the old grandstand to be ‘rough and ready’ and I wasn’t disappointed! No prawn sandwiches or prosseco here, but a good view of the pitch, an entertaining game, and we were made to feel very welcome.
"The press box is a fancy name for what is in essence a long bench behind a wooden partition at the back of the grandstand, with electricity and Wi-fi. With (media manager) Simon Larkins writing the match report, and Sam Marshall in charge of the Twitter account it was all go, especially in the first ten minutes when City hit hot form racing into a two goal lead.
"The second half saw Barnet turn the screw, and pull a goal back though the dangerous John Akinde. As they pressed for an equaliser the clock seemed to tick ever slower. Eventually the final whistle blew, and we waited for interviews with Paul Tisdale and David Wheeler.
"This was a great experience, and we greatly appreciate how we were made to feel at home. The old grandstand hasn’t really changed since I last sat in it some twenty years ago, and it’s replacing is long over-due – I wouldn’t swap the relative comfort of the IP Office Main Stand for the old grandstand any time soon!”
The Exeter City Foundation is a great deal, particularly for those who are regular supporters of the club.
