Tis feels Exeter City are gaining momentum
Exeter City manager Paul Tisdale feels his side are starting to get a bit of momentum after two good performances and positive results.
The Grecians drew 0-0 at home to Grimsby Town on Saturday, October 8, before beating Barnet 4-1 away last weekend.
Both games saw the Grecians defend well and create numerous chances, which pleased Tis.
Speaking after the win against Barnet, Tis said: “It’s about momentum - last week we could've won by the same scoreline. That’s two good performances now so on to the next.
“We’ve got the Checkatrade Trophy game on Tuesday against Chelsea which will be a very different type of game, a different sport probably, but then we look forward to the Cambridge game next Saturday.”
The 4-1 victory at Barnet was particularly impressive as the Grecians fell behind to an early John Akinde header but battled back to win the game with goals from Jake Taylor, Lee Holmes, David Wheeler and Reuben Reid.
“I'm not surprised (by the result) it has been coming,” said Tis. “The back four looked really solid. It’s taken a month’s work and now they’ve put three or four good performances together.
“We know they that (Barnet) are a physical threat, but we stood up to it and the back four were great. We competed all over the pitch and players like Jake Taylor and Lee Holmes – that type of player who you wouldn’t ordinarily say are fighters – did their fair share. It was a really good team performance.”
“It’s great for Reuben (to get off the mark) because as a striker that’s what you need,” added Tis. “You need to get that monkey off your back and he’s got his chance, took a nice penalty.
“It was great to see David Wheeler get his goal and see Holmes score, and when we got in front it suddenly became our game. The midfielders and the forwards looked really fluent and it looked like we could've scored at any moment.”
Tis also praised the 360 travelling supporters who came to see the match.
“If the fans feel anything like I feel they’ll be skipping their way down to the tube station,” said Tis. “I’m delighted for them. A number of them came up to me before the game and said they were fully behind the players, so well done to them and I’m sure they enjoyed the game.”
