Have your say on the future of the EFL Trophy
The Club and Trust Chairs will be attending a meeting of League One and League Two clubs on April 11, to discuss and vote on the future of the English Football League Trophy (currently the Checkatrade Trophy).To help inform how Exeter City votes, the Supporters Trust would like to hear the views of fans.
We are still expecting more information on options but this will arrive too late for this survey. So in the meantime based on what we already know we would like to know what you think.
There are a number of different perspectives to consider. In summary:
- Player Development: Paul Tisdale has made it clear he believes the format this year with Academy Category 1 teams gave our young players valuable experience. It was a good opportunity to benchmark them.
- Finances: Overall a lot more prize money (£1.625m versus £478k the previous year) was on offer and therefore the potential to increase income (important for a club like ours). In fact Exeter City made less (£18.44k) in gate receipts and prize money this year than last (£42.517k); mainly because in the previous season we had a well attended tie at Plymouth and an attractive home game with Portsmouth. But we made significantly more than in 2014/15 (£8.769k).
- Supporter reaction: Attendances were generally well down this year (average of 1388 per game this year versus 3705 the season before). At the Trust Forum in November 2016 there was overwhelming support from those present for a reversion to a competition solely for L1 and 2 Clubs.
