So here is a run-down to some of the key fixture dates to take a note of…

Opening and closing weekend

The opening day of the season is always an exciting one. This year we head to the seaside to visit Blackpool on Saturday 6th August to kick off the campaign. Bookending the year is a visit from Carlisle United on Saturday 6th May.

Local derbies

The Devon derby against Plymouth Argyle, undeniably, is the big one – it’ll be a home tie on Saturday 17th September, and a trip to Home Park on Saturday 11th February. City make the trip to Huish Park to face Yeovil Town on Boxing Day, before facing the Glovers at St James Park on Saturday 25th March.

Christmas and Easter

After the trip to Yeovil on Boxing Day, City make another relatively short journey to Newport County on Saturday 31st December. Barnet are the visitors to St James Park on Saturday 15th April, before the Grecians make the long trip east to face Cambridge United on Easter Monday.

Former players

After Paul Jones’ Portsmouth side visit St James Park on Saturday 27th August, City travel to Fratton Park on Saturday 28th January. City face two former players in quick succession over the festive period, as they visit Artur Krysiak’s Yeovil Town on Boxing Day and Scott Bennett’s Newport County on Saturday 31st December. Krysiak makes the return to St James Park on Saturday 25th March, with Bennett making the trip to Devon on Saturday 8th April.

Midweek fixtures

Postponements and cup runs might necessitate a few more midweek clashes – but at present, there are just six midweek games scheduled.  These are the home and away games against Notts County (Tuesday 27th September and Tuesday 14th February respectively), trips to Leyton Orient (Tuesday 22nd November) and Crawley Town (Tuesday 28th February) and a home tie to Cheltenham Town (Tuesday March 14th).  But the first comes early doors as City host Crawley Town on Tuesday 16th August.

Long away trips

Travelling Grecians don’t have to wait long for the first punishing journey with Blackpool up first on the opening day. City face another long trip north to face Accrington Stanley on Saturday 20th August. Colchester follows two weeks later on Saturday 3rd September, and Morecambe away is 29th October. City travel to newly-promoted Grimsby Town on Saturday 14th January, and Hartlepool United on Saturday 4th March.
