Euros at the Centre Spot: England v Slovakia report

23 June 2016

Disappointment for England, but another great turnout at the Centre Spot.

Not even a less-than-thrilling game of football served up by Roy Hodgson's men and Slovakia, coupled with a not-so-favourable late Monday night kick off could keep the punters away from watching the Euros at the Centre Spot.

Monday proved to be the busiest night of all England's group matches, with plenty of returning faces complemented by both new ones and familiar ones to those who come in after City games, such as Dave Bennett (one of our many beloved 50/50 ticket sellers). Noah the dog* was also in attendance, accompanying owner Phil Day, Paul Beer and Matty Irons in cheering on the Three Lions. City fans weren't, however, the only recognisable punters in attendance: Exeter MP Ben Bradshaw was also here to support England and he made sure to thank all of the Centre Spot team for a great evening.

City fans in Greece were once again connected to the Centre Spot via Skype on Monday, this time video calling from Asterix bar on Andros Island. It proved to be popular once again, with Grecians fan Chris Woollcott saying "the party link between [the two bars] was fantastic, a great coming together of Exeter fans". Dinos Papachristos, who last week won over 500€ with the help of City fans and is a fireman by trade, popped into the Asterix bar in his work uniform, citing Lee Holmes being on fire as the reason.

Once again the Centre Spot team would like to thank everyone who came to the bar to watch the game and to the fans in Greece who once again connected with us; and we hope we'll see all of you again in the knockout stages.

Following Wednesday evening's results we now know that England will face Iceland in the Round of 16 on Monday 27th June at 8pm. The earlier 5pm kick off between Italy and Spain will also be shown live at the Centre Spot.

The offers on the day are:
  • 4-pint jug of Thatchers - £10
  • Pastie and a pint - £4.50 (Does not apply to San Miguel)
  • 20% student and trust member discount on other bar purchases
  • Free wifi
Monday is another chance to get your raffle tickets ahead of the draw on 10th July, when England will hopefully be taking part in the final of Euro 2016. Prizes include one of the new 2016/17 Exeter City shirts and a pair of pre-season friendly tickets.
