Roger East to oversee derby fixture
Referee Roger East will be the man charged with keeping order in the Easter Monday clash between Exeter City and Torquay United at St James Park.
East is one of the 18 referees that is on the Select Group of Premier League officials for the current campaign, and has taken charge of fixtures in all of the top four divisions and the two major cup competitions this season. This will be only East’s third Sky Bet League 2 fixture of 2013/14 – one of the others also happened to be a Devon Derby, as Torquay and Plymouth Argyle drew 1-1 at Plainmoor back in November.
The Wiltshire-based official has taken charge of eight matches at St James Park since City's return to the Football League, and the Grecians have won six, drawn two and lost none of those matches. Of the 11 Torquay matches that East has overseen, only one has been away from home – a 3-2 defeat at Hereford two seasons ago.
In his 26 games so far this season, East has brandish 86 yellow cards and two reds – the most recent dismissal was in his other League 2 fixture, as Portsmouth’s Ben Chorley received his marching orders in a home defeat to York City.
Running the line are Andy Hendley and Ronald Ganfield – the latter of whom has held the flag at Premier League stadia in his last six matches – and Lee Probert, who will referee the FA Cup final between Hull City and Arsenal, is the fourth official.
