Tis: A Disappointing Night

Grecians boss reacts to Bootham Crescent defeat

EXETER CITY manager Paul Tisdale spoke of his and the team’s disappointment that the Grecians were unable to take any points from their midweek trip to York City.

A Bradley Fewster double earned the Minstermen all three points on Tuesday night, making for successive away defeats for the City charges.

“The result was obviously very disappointing,” Paul said. “It was a good pitch to play on, and conditions were good. I thought that we started extremely well, and in the first half, the only blip as far as our performance was concerned was their goal. Goals do make a difference in football matches. We had two or three excellent chances and didn’t score, and they’ve taken their chance. The performance had been excellent – we were quick to the ball and competitive, but I think we finished flat again, and I don’t have an answer for why that was. I didn’t see the sort of response that I wanted from the team, and I’m disappointed with how we reacted to being behind.

“Jordan Tillson had an excellent shot, which was blocked, and that was one of a number of opportunities that we had. Every game that we fail to pick up points, it makes the job to get into the play-offs harder, and it doesn’t take Einstein to work out that the team and myself are very disappointed.

“Saturday’s game is no more important now than if we had won at York – but it is another crucial three points on offer for us. I cannot criticise the way the players started the game tonight – there was no apathy or laziness, but somehow we’ve managed to come away with no points from the last couple of games.”
