Tis: “A very complete performance”

City manager gives match reaction after Morecambe win

Grecians manager Paul Tisdale was pleased with a 'complete' performance away at Morecambe, which merited a 2-0 win for City at the Globe Arena.

Exeter were good value for their lead when it came in the ninth minute as Shaun Beeley accidentally turned Christian Ribeiro's cross into his own net at the far post.

City controlled the game for great swathes and Christy Pym was rarely tested between the sticks.  Conversely Scott Davies, tending the Shrimps' net, played a key role in keeping the hosts within a goal.

However a well-taken goal on the break by Tom Nichols – who sprung the offside trap and hammered in – sealed the goal in the 89th minute.

“I don’t want to sound like I am gloating but it was a comfortable performance,” Tis said.

“Of course there were a few moments, but at 1-0 you always run the risk that a 40-yard shot flies into the top corner so you can never take anything for granted.

“It's a difficult team-talk winning away from home at half-time when you've had the dominance of the half.  It's a good team-talk to have but it's not always easy.

“We went through the dangers and what we could do that could lead us into a false sense of security, and we spoke about Morecambe changing systems, which they did by matching us up in midfield.

“Their goalkeeper made some really good saves and we just didn't finish them off early enough.

“Danny Butterfield and Matt Oakley really set the tone for the team with making everyone comfortable and adding calm.  They gave us a really good footing in the game.

“We had good control of the game. I think it was a very complete performance it is not disrespectful to say we were comfortable in our game.”

The win in Lancashire takes Exeter up to 10th in the Sky Bet League 2 table, having registered 19 points from the last 24 available.

Paul was pleased that the team were able to turn a good performance into the right result while the team is turning in good displays.

“I am thrilled with the way we played and another three points to make it six wins from eight,” he continued.  “We need to make hay while the sun shines. We had an opportunity and we took it.

“It is a long year ahead and we've got a tough couple of months coming for all sorts of reasons. This season is going to be a bit of a rollercoaster.”
