Tis: Drawn Into A False Sense Of Security

Grecians boss reacts to Accrington defeat

EXETER CITY manager Paul Tisdale reflected on a disappointing afternoon after the Grecians went down 4-2 to Accrington Stanley at the Wham Stadium.

"I said before the game that we had to be wary of what could happen," Tis said. "Just because you are playing well and you are in good form doesn't mean you can be complacent about things.

"Maybe that first twenty-five minutes didn't help us; maybe everything that was said before the game, about having that radar for danger and being disciplined, was lost.

"We were so in control of the football that my words were forgotten. We were so comfortable in terms of our attacking play that we were drawn into a false sense of security and the game can change so quickly and that is probably what happened.

"I think, had we restricted them to two goals we would have a chance of a result ourselves. It is not just about that error. It certainly didn't help the team. It certainly didn't give us a wonderful opportunity going into the second half, but on the balance of play we certainly didn't deserve to be two-nil down. However, goals change games and they came at regular intervals, for them, in that first hour and the game just slipped away from us.

"It was a disappointing afternoon and I have to be very careful what I say and think at this stage. I can't just let the emotion of losing 4-2 dictate everything that I do. We can't make those mistakes, or make that kind of performance, too often."
