Grecians boss previews trip to Accrington

Exeter City visit Accrington Stanley on Friday evening in Sky Bet League 2, and Paul Tisdale holds no surprise in seeing the Lancashire club manning a top-half position in the division.

Stanley were amongst many people’s favourites to get relegated before the season began, but quite conversely they currently sit just four points off the play-offs.

After a poor start to the campaign, John Coleman – who had previously been in the hotseat at the Crown Ground between 1999 and 2012 – returned in mid-September.  He has since led them to six wins in ten games, four of which came on home turf.

Exeter manager Paul Tisdale is expecting another tough evening in Accrington and knows Exeter will have to earn anything they get.

“I’m not surprised by anything in this league,” said Tis.  “The form can change in a month or two, and everyone is so evenly matched.  Other than one or two teams, on the whole teams don’t have large squads.

“A couple of injuries can affect a team; having everyone back fit can have the opposite, positive effect.

“It is so finely balanced that I’m not surprised about any team having a good run, or a poor run.

“John Coleman knows his way around Accrington – he was there for a long, long time in his past appointment and it was a good fit.

“A lot of the time it is about the manager fitting the environment, and he certainly fits there.

“So [their position] is not a surprise to us – I say it every week but it is a game where we have to earn our victory.  We’re not going to be given anything in this league.”
