Tis: “Sam gives us options”

9 July 2013

Paul pleased to bring in Parkin’s attributes

Following the completion of Sam Parkin’s move to St James Park, Grecians manager Paul Tisdale declared his satisfaction at adding the experienced forward to the City ranks.

Like with any signing, judgement will have to be put on hold until the League 2 season gets into full swing, but Tis is contented that he has picked up a real asset for the Grecians who will contribute on and off the pitch.

“It’ll be a good signing once we’ve started the season and he’s started playing well,” said Tis.  “On paper, I’m very pleased with the signing – he’s fitted in very well and he’s our type.

“As with any signing it’ll be judged latterly, once we’ve ingratiated him into the set-up and he’s played games and contributed.”

In his first interview for the club, Parkin was keen to express his willingness to work hard, knit the play for others, and help the side become successful.  Likewise, Tis feels that the forward’s attributes on the pitch will help to add something extra to the team and help to make the side more threatening as a whole.

“It’s a change of tack and gives us options,” continued Paul.  “Over the course of the season, you get a fair indication of what you are and I got the hunch last season that we would be a very good away team, based on Alan Gow and Jamie Cureton and the way we set up.  It proved to be the case, but it proved to be the case that we weren’t as effective at home as I was hoping.

“So this gives me options and flexibility.  He’s a different type of striker – he’s a very good age for adding value and helping others.  He got a full season last year under his belt, and it feels right.”
