Exeter City manager happy after Dagenham success

EXETER CITY manager Paul Tisdale commended his players on seeing out the closing stages after the Grecians secured a 2-1 win at Dagenham & Redbridge on Tuesday evening.

Ryan Harley and Troy Brown got the goals to help City to the points, and despite Jodi Jones grabbing one back for the Daggers four minutes from time, it was the visitors that left the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham Stadium happy.

"They suddenly had a surge at the end and I have to say the last five minutes were very uncomfortable," Paul said. "But before that I thought we had the full flow of the game. We weren't impeccable with our play, but we certainly had the flow of the game.

"We were sharp as a team and we played some good football in pockets and we had a threat on their goal. So, as a manager, you look at the game as a whole and I think we were good value for our three points."

City handed a first league start to midfielder Manny Oyeleke in Essex, and the former Brentford man shot in what was a physical encounter at Victoria Road.

“Manny Oyeleke was outstanding on his full debut for us," Paul said. "He showed real athleticism and drive in the midfield. That was a real plus for us and Jordan Tillson put in another really good performance. So, the squad's strength is starting to build as well. We have picked up six points out of the first three games. I'm happy with that. It is not the full house, but it is a good start and the squad is building.

"Of course we will always come to a place like Dagenham and have sparkling support. We had fantastic noise again coming from our away supporters. Sometimes we just have to be steady on the pitch and make good, solid decisions and build with the spirit the supporters give us.

"They lifted us just before we scored our second goal. We had a bit of play in their left-back position with our right sided attack, and we kept the pressure on, the crowd lifted and within a couple of minutes we had scored. That is symptomatic of a good away performance."
