Tis: “We have to be bold and bullish”

City manager calling for brave play against Northampton

The Grecians host 23rd-placed Northampton Town at St James Park on Tuesday evening, and manager Paul Tisdale knows his team need to attack the occasion and show courage in the right areas.

With the season now into the home stretch, some of City’s matches are taking additional significance.  All three teams that lie below Exeter are visitors at St James Park before the end of the season, beginning with the Cobblers in midweek, and the results of those matches could be especially determinant on where City lie come the season’s end.

Exeter grabbed a last-gasp point against Dagenham on Saturday through Eliot Richards and Tis wants the Grecians to continue to dare in the run-in and to come out on top of the so-called six-pointers.

“It’s a big game [against Northampton] – we have to view any game, especially ones against teams in the bottom half, as one where it’s not just about the points we’re looking to gain,” said Tis.  “It’s about the points we’re looking to prevent them from getting also.

“We have to be bold and bullish.  You saw from my reaction when we scored the equaliser [against Dagenham] with 40 seconds to go, I was asking us to try and go and win it.

“That has to be our mindset.  We have to be that way going into these games; we can’t be too conservative.

“Northampton have signed a lot of good players and they will be strong.”
