So with 2009 drawing to a close, so ends another decade, and in the world of Exeter City FC and its supporters, it's been quite some ride. There is little point in me plunging into detail of the events of the past ten years, as everyone is undoubtedly already aware of the highs and lows we've encountered. In summation of the decade just gone, I have to say our club and importantly the people who have kept the club in existence, the fans, have done an extraordinary job in managing to come out of the "noughties" rosier than we went in.
A league higher, owned by the trust, financially sound, ambition on and off the field, and some very valuable assets on our books. I can't say I predicted many of these things coming to fruition when we battled out a 2-2 draw with Peterborough at the Park in our last game of the last millennium. We were languishing in 19th in the table at the time.
So where do we see ourselves being in at the end of the next decade? Well, success in the same vein of the last couple of years, is probably a little too much to expect. That's not to say that we should be satisfied and believe we have "found our level". There is room for improvement in our club on and off the field, and it's hoped that we are putting in place a structure to carry this forward into the teenies, tennsies or whatever we'll end up calling them.

Ryan wants us to continue to make the Park an enjoyable experience for all comers |
We have the appointment of a new chairman who will be charged with guiding our club at this very important crossroads, we have an ambitious development project in our midst with the Old Grandstand due to be replaced (an even more difficult job when you consider the character that stand brings to our ground), further down the line there's the potential for the World Cup to come to our area and how this will impact on us, some very exciting times ahead and I haven't even mentioned the footballing side of things.
Without getting too far ahead of ourselves, it would be nice to start the new decade looking up the table rather than down, and we have some tough fixtures to come through if that's to be the case. In the longer term though, we must continue doing what we do well as a club, working within the community to bring in local talent and nurture it to fruition, continue to make the Park an enjoyable experience for all comers (except opposition obviously) and for those on the outside looking in at our club, encourage them to get involved in our club.
Strength in numbers is very much the name of the game for a club like ours and whilst we continue to increase the average attendance at the park year on year, there's still room for a few more.
On the pitch, we've started the season off solidly, if not spectacularly, we've shown some great characteristics, some great skill and some great teamwork, and it'll Paul Tisdale's aim to try and have those moments reproduced on a much more regular basis.
Exciting times lie ahead for our club and I'm sure every supporter will be throwing their full support behind the boys on every occasion possible as we continue our march up the footballing pyramid.
Merry Christmas everyone and very Happy and Prosperous New Year.
