Under 9s v AFC Bournemouth - HOME - Lost 6 - 1

Exeter struggled with their passing and in general did not get going today, that said City are trying to instill good habits and play the right way. Even in small sided football with no offsides the Exeter defenders are taught to squeeze up and Bournemouth scored four of their goals by leaving a striker on the edge of the City box for the whole match. George Rae, Cameron Hargreaves and Audie Campbell all tried hard with Neal Osborn doing well in goal and Archie Collins getting the Exeter goal.

The Exeter City youngsters made a steady start to 2008 with a draw at home to visitors Bournemouth. City took the lead early on when Nick Grimes set Mika Morgan off down the right wing, he beat his man and pulled the ball back for the incoming Ollie Jay to smash low and hard into the opponents goal. Bournemouth rallied and got one back, setting the game up for a nail biting finish, however despite several good raids in the final minutes with tiring legs the young Grecians were unable to find the winner.

Bournemouth started the stronger and forced Jake Moore-Taylor to make some good saves, just before the end of the first period Bournemouth took the lead. During the second period City controlled the match, closing down quickly, winning the ball back early and creating several shooting opportunities. The only one of which was taken when pressure from Scott McMillan set up Cameron Gill who caught the Bournemouth goalkeeper off his line. At half time, with the score at 1 - 1 the match was evenly balanced. Thereafter City's performance became uneven with only Scott Townsend and Jack Lee really maintaining their consistency and although City's effort could not be faulted but Bournemouth deserved to win.

Exeter dominated the game with good controlled passing. Against the run of play they went down 1 - 0 but great strikes from Jacob Tinsley, Kyle Howell and Lewis Sanders took them into a 3 - 1 lead. Other goals came from Aarron Denny and Matt Jay with every Exeter player performing well.

The City boys worked really hard and deserve some credit for their effort because this has not always been the case. Exeter played some good football at times, but without a cutting edge and failing to create chances at one end put pressure on the defence which eventually told.

A disappointing performance from the Grecians who played well in patches but need to show more desire, commitment and consistency throughout the entire match.

Under 15s v AFC Bournemouth - HOME - Lost 4 - 1

City started brightly and took the game to the visitors in the opening period. Whilst there was little to separate the two sides it was a fortunate penalty that gave Bournemouth a 1 - 0 lead. City did not let this knock them out of their stride and with the combination of Seb Broomfield and Lewis Coombes always looking dangerous a deserved equaliser came from Broomfield in the second period. Although City created numerouse very good chances they didn't capitalise and the third period proved decisive and a 5 minute spell when concentration lapsed saw Bournemouth take a commanding 3-1 lead. The final period saw City trying hard to get back in the game but they were further stunned by a long range effort. After lengthy spells injured it was good to see Matt Rickard and Jake Evans on the field.

City took half an hour to find their stride but then dominated the last fifteen minutes of the first half scoring two good goals through Jordan Edgecombe and Sean Holden. Inexplicably the young Grecians, who had been in control of the match, panicked when Bournemouth pulled one back and conceded two more in 5 minutes to find themselves 3 - 2 down. It wasn't until further errors gifted Bournemouth a fourth goal that City again relaxed and tried to pass the ball again. Noah Keats and Kyle Bassett had good games while Under 15's Roger Ingham and Ethan Phillips both did well.
