U9s to U16s vs Cheltenham
Under 9s v Cheltenham Town - HOME - Lost 5 - 4
Exeter City's Under 9s played some of their best football of the season so far, for three quarters of the match they were comfortably the better team with good passing and movement all over the pitch. Having led for long periods City succumbed to a couple of late goals. The moment of the match came when Jack Thomas hit a blistering free kick that flew into the top right hand corner. Good performances came from Cameron Hargreaves, George Rae, Audie Campbell and Jack Thomas.
Man of the Match - Jack Thomas
Under 10s v Cheltenham Town - HOME - Lost 4 - 2
This was a below par performance from the young Grecians who have set themselves a high standard this season. Despite leading 2-1 for two thirds of the game courtesy of two Mika Morgan goals City gave the visitors a route back in when they failed to deal with a Cheltenham corner. From then on the visitors were dominant and City were always fighting to stay in the match. Mika Morgan was denied his hat trick when a lunging effort struck the post with the away keeper beaten and Tom Scadding came close with a header in the closing minutes.
Under 11s v Cheltenham Town - AWAY - Lost 4 - 1
After competing and passing well for 50 minutes a lapse of concentration allowed Cheltenham to take the lead against the run of play. Worse was to follow as City's confidence evaporated and they allowed their opponents to muscle their way back into the game and score two further quick goals. Although City regained their determination in the later stages, the damage was done. Tyler Dobinson made a promising debut but City really must learn not to allow decisions by the referee which they think are unjust to affect their belief and their performance.
Under 12s v Cheltenham Town - AWAY - Drew 1 - 1
It took a fortunate cross come shot, halfway through the game to give Cheltenham the lead and kick Exeter into life. After the goal City completely dominated with some excellent football and were rewarded with an equaliser when Louis Cane latched onto Josh Wadham's through ball to expertly lob the keeper. Matt Burge saved a penalty for Exeter late on to prevent Cheltenham from taking a win that they would not have deserved.
Man of the Match - Louis Gallagher
Under 13s v Cheltenham Town - AWAY - Lost 3 - 1
Exeter produced their best battling performance of the season and were unlucky not to get something from the game. Cheltenham were two goals up before Exeter had a clear penalty turned down. In the last period with City pushing forward a third goal was conceded on the break. The Grecians kept going and Callum Head slotted in for City to make it 3 - 1 before a penalty was awarded to Exeter in the last minute, only for it to be missed. Good performances by Thomas Tricker and Andrew Parker.
Man of the Match - Sam Brown
Under 14s v Cheltenham Town - HOME - Won 6 - 2
A good battling performance by Exeter against a physical Cheltenham side, City scored early and then dominated most of the match. Jordan Kewell bagged a hat-trick of one on one finishes with trialist Sam Dicken netting twice from a neat close range finish and a powerful shot from an acute angle. Jordan Moore Taylor powered home a header from a corner to round off the scoring. A lot of good performances with both Jamie Micklewright and Jordan Moore Taylor having excellent games for the Grecians.
Under 15s v Cheltenham Town - HOME - Won 5 - 1
The opening period produced the brightest passing from City but a sloppy goal was conceded to give the visitors hope. The game became scrappy but the highlight of this win was a hat-trick form centre back Phil Veal. He opened the scoring with a delightful chip over the keeper and added two more with
powerful headers from set pieces. The other goals came from a Tom Nichols penalty after Oli Nott had been brought down and a brave header from Matt Rickard. The work-rate was first class and although the quality needs to improve it was a well deserved victory earned through hard work.
Man of the Match - Phil Veal
Under 16s v Cheltenham Town - HOME - Lost 3 - 1
City started well, were on top for the first 20 minutes and having given themselves a platform created two good chances. Clever movement from Jordan Edgecombe was not matched with his finish that was dragged wide and then Callum Somers strike hit the underside of the keeper bounced into the floor and just over the bar. Having not taken their chances City then conceded from three set pieces with a taller Cheltenham side having a height advantage from corners, that said City's goal came from an Aaron Doble header from a corner.
