U9s - U16s match reports
Under 9s v Bristol Rovers - AWAY - Lost 7 - 3
A fine display of football was given by both teams in a match which was closer than the score suggests. In 3 of the 4 periods the teams were extremely well matched and the scores were 0-0, 1-1 and 2-2. It was only the 2nd period that the young Grecians lost by 4 clear goals due to a lack of concentration and disappointment at falling behind. Alex Hartridge had an excellent game in the centre of defence and fellow debutant Oliver Payne scored one and set up another. Archie Collins and Audie Campbell also had good games for City.
Man of the Match - Alex Hartridge
Under 10s v Bristol Rovers- AWAY - Lost 5 - 4
The Under 10s continue to perform well and improve as the season nears it's conclusion, they played fast, determined football dominating large parts of the match. Liam Carey made some great runs into the opposition's defensive third providing crosses for two of the Grecians goals. It was pleasing to see the other two goals come from corners as City's players showed determination in the opposition box from set pieces. Bristol held on to their slender lead in the final minutes as Exeter piled on the pressure. A gritty and determined performance with Mika Morgan and Ollie Jay both getting a brace.
Man of the Match - Liam Carey
Under 11s v Bristol Rovers - HOME - Drew 3 - 3
Arguably the most competitive game of the season brought out the competitive edge in City's players in a display where Exeter dominated for long periods of the game. In the first period both teams worked hard but it was City who showed the composure to get the ball down and pass, at times opening up the Bristol defence with lovely one and two touch play. Goal scorers for Exeter were Jack Hocking, Scott Townsend and Callum Hutchings with Charlie Madden impressive the centre of defence.
Under 12s v Bristol Rovers - HOME - Lost 3 - 1
In possession this was a very good display of passing football from the Grecians, however, the young City players lacked courage against a physically taller and stronger Bristol side. When defending Exeter looked scared of the bigger Bristol players and they will need to get over this fear very quickly. Sean Goss got the goal for the home side and the display of Alex Cole on his return from injury was a real highlight.
Man of the Match - Alex Cole
Under 13s v Bristol Rovers - HOME - Lost 6 - 0
Bristol dominated this game from start to finish having gone three goals up early on.
Sam Brown and Andrew Parker worked hard and showed the desire that some other players lacked while Christy Pym in goal produced some good saves to keep the score down.
Under 14s v Bristol Rovers - AWAY - Lost 3 - 1
Exeter started brightly and worked very hard throughout the first three periods, deservedly going ahead through Jordan Kewell. Matias Morgan's work ethic from the front inspired Exeter to keep battling but in the fourth and final period Exeter ran out of steam and conceded three quick goals.
Man of the Match - Matias Morgan
Under 15s v Bristol Rovers - AWAY - Won 2 - 0
A well deserved victory built on some solid team play that left the hosts conceding that the better team won. Lewis Coombes unsettled the home defence from the first minute to the last and combined well with Seb Broomfield to create the openings that Tom Nichols took with two cool finishes. The whole team came out of this game with credit and need to maintain the same commitment, desire and application.
Under 16s v Bristol Rovers - HOME - Lost 4 - 1
City's attempts at a new 5-3-2 shape and counter attacking tactics were undone with too many costly mistakes. Having conceded from a corner inside two minutes Exeter were on the back foot for most of the first half but looked like they might come in level at half time after an excellent goal on the break after 40 minutes. Callum Somers sublime touch, awareness and passing found the powerful run from midfield of Noah Keats and the lob finish matched the build up play. However, Rovers quickly restored their lead with a 25 yard rocket before half time and then never looked like allowing City back in the second half. Wing backs Jack Langford and Andy Frost both performed well for Exeter.
