Mixed Results For City's Youth Sides

Posted on: Tue 08 Dec 2009

Exeter City's Under 18's were beaten 4-1 by Bristol Rovers at the Cat & Fiddle this weekend but the Under 16's pulled off an impressive victory away at Bournemouth.

Rovers are currently top of the table having won every game but Simon Hayward's Under 18 side, who dropped to seventh spot, gave them a tough match

Jack Furzer made it 1-1 just before the break with a header from a Dan Western cross and it looked like the Under 18's could do what Paul Tisdale's side couldn't, and beat Bristol Rovers.

But they fell 2-1 behind against the run of play before Simon Hayward's side were hit on the break and the away side scored two counterattacking goals

The Under 16's on the other hand pulled off a fantastic 3-1 win away at Bournemouth.

The Grecians opened the scoring after just 11 minutes when Matias Morgan's cross was headed home by Jacob Wannell from inside the six yard box.

Sam Brown then broke his Exeter City duck on the half-hour to double the away side's lead after good work from Ryan Guppy and Jacob Cane on the left-hand side.

Bournemouth hit back before the interval but just three minutes into the second half Liam Pike headed Lewis Hilton's free-kick past the goalkeeper.

City's held on to record the victory thanks to some great play, resolute defending and a bit of luck.
