City Youth Match Reports

Under 9's Swansea 2-2 Exeter City

City got themselves a two-goal lead by the halfway stage with an OG and a good finish from Jack Sparkes. Lots of positional changes gave the boys extra to work on. Swansea got back in the game with some route one football but City kept their discipline and continued to dominate and pass the ball well. Some good solid tackling against a strong Swansea side from all involved.

Exeter worked very hard throughout the duration of the game. But a long bus journey was their downfall in the final minutes. Harry Kite played some defence-splitting passes and set up numerous chances. There was some great movement from Nathan Townsend, Oli Jarrett and Connor Balment. Alex Gibson, Joe O'Loughlin and Sam Haynes were strong in their tackles.

Under 11's Exeter City 2-0 Swansea

On a hot sunny spring day Exeter City U11's showed some of their finest football of the season.

They took the lead from a fine footballing move which resulted in Jack Thomas slotting into the bottom right-hand corner of the Swans goal. City had two goals disallowed for offside and settled the tie with a long range effort from Rudi Small who thoroughly deserved his goal after some wonderful interplay in the centre of midfield.

It's fair to say that the City goal at times lived a charmed life as Swansea pressed for an equaliser but it was City who finished the stronger and the result was reward for their concerted efforts.

Exeter were beaten by a strong Swansea side. City went three goals behind early in the game but responded positively and were unfortunate not to get a couple of goals back towards the end of the game. Will Richards, Brandon Green and Liam Carey all tested the Swansea keeper and Mustafa Rehemi shot just wide.

Under 13's Exeter City 1-7 Swansea

Exeter started brightly and held out their bigger counterparts to 1 - 0 in the first period.

In the second and third period Swansea outplayed Exeter and played some strong aggressive football resulting in them scoring four goals.

In the fourth period Exeter came to life with Calllum Hutchins, Alex Byrne and Tyler Dobinson playing some lovely passing football which lead to Jack Hocking lobbing the goalkeeper.

Under 14's Swansea City 4-4 Exeter City

City got off to an overwhelming start when, in the second minute, Conor Morey's misplaced kick from a back pass was intercepted by an opponent who shot into an empty net. Worse still, Louis Gallagher, attempting a goal line clearance, fell and broke his wrist.

However, City did not allow these set-backs to deter them. Strong, aggressive and passing quickly they replied with goals from Josh Wadham, Lewis Sanders and Jake Chisholm to end the period in complete control.

City continued to make and miss some excellent scoring opportunities. Josh Wadham's pace and determination took him behind the Swansea defence on four occasions without managing to score and gradually Swansea bludgeoned their way back into the match. City, for all their attacking, failed to be ready to defend and a square back four were vulnerable to long passes down the middle of the pitch or blind side runs to City's far post.

Swansea took advantage, scored twice, before Ollie Watkins finished a good move, only for indecision and lack of communication in City's defence to allow Swansea back into the match again.

City's failure to take their chances meant that they were forced to defend strongly in the closing stages against very abrasive opponents but can take credit for remaining resolute to the end.

U16's Exeter City 2-1 Swansea

Exeter started well with five trialists playing and they took the lead after just five minutes when Liam Pike headed Curtis Jemmett-Hutson corner in from close range.

Though City scored early on it took them some time to adjust to their new surroundings and play was a bit scrappy. But City then went further ahead in the 42nd minute when goalkeeper Ryan Peacock's long clearance resulted in Louis Watts stabbing the ball home from 13 yards.

In the second half Swansea pulled a goal back in the 62nd minute from a disputed penalty. Though the score was close, on possession Exeter were dominant, and possibly should have extended their lead.
