Launch of the ECDSA and a great opportunity to recycle those old mobile phones

Posted on: Tue 23 Oct 2007

MESSAGE FROM EXETER CITY DISABLED SUPPORTERS ASSOCIATION (ECDSA) CHAIRMAN, NICK SAUNDERS

Over the summer, I have been working tirelessly setting up ECDSA with the help from members of the first elected committee.

At the Weymouth game on Bank Holiday Monday, we were proud to officially launch the Disabled Supporters Association and to also launch our first fundraiser in partnership with Exeter City Supporters Club, namely the collection and recycling of supporters' old mobile phones More of this later).

We were also extremely pleased that City's Bertie Cozic agreed to become our President and we presented Bertie with our first ever membership certificate when ECDSA was launched at half time during the game.

The aims and objectives of ECDSA, as you can no doubt guess, are to promote activities and schemes which benefit the football club and its disabled supporters. The association will also promote the inclusiveness of disabled supporters as well as those with impairments and, equally, those of the disabled supporters personal assistants, recognising that all disabled supporters should have an equal opportunity to participate in an enjoyable match day experience and ensuring that their interests are recognised and promoted by Exeter City Football Club with equal status to that of all other fans of the club.

It's not all serious, though. In addition to all this, we want to get together socially and enjoy ourselves in just the same way as you'd expect the East and North Devon Grecians to do so!

The initial committee is made up of: Nick Saunders (Chairman), Colin Atkins (Vice-Chairman), Alastair Young (Secretary), Margaret Atkins (Treasurer), Chris Fiddes, Mark Fisher, Paul Gray, Jeanne Jones, Ian Jubb, Les Knight and Dacre Holloway (ECFC Stadium Manager).

Our Disabled Supporters Association is the only one of its kind in the Blue Square Premier and I would like to take this opportunity in thanking the club for the backing and support they are giving the association and, once again, helping us put Exeter City ahead of the opposition.

Membership is open to any interested persons and a single membership is £5 and you will receive a membership card, copy of the disabled & assistant information leaflet (with all the up to date information and contact details), copy of the rules for ECDSA and details of certain preferences for all ticket matches and discount on official away coach travel where advertised (which can vary).

Pick up a membership form from the club or, if you prefer, we can email you a membership form. Email: disability@exetercityfc.co.uk with your request for this or any other questions you have.

If sending applications, these should be sent to: Mr N Saunders, ECDSA, Exeter City Football Club, St James Park, EXETER, EX4 6PX. Cheques or postal orders to be made payable to 'ECDSA' but please do not send cash.

We look forward to seeing you as new members of the ECDSA soon.

Thanks to all
Nicholas Saunders
ECDSA Chairman

RECYCLING THOSE OLD MOBILE PHONES

You will see posters all around the club containing all the relevant information you will need to contribute to this scheme but, essentially, by dropping off your old mobile phone and battery at the club shop in an envelope along with your name and address (for us only), you can help the ECDSA raise money to help the football club.

We are all getting through mobile phones at such speed now that everyone must have an old phone is a drawer at home. Here is a great opportunity to be more environmentally friendly and also raise some money at the same time. We don't need really need accessories just the phone and the battery and please remember to remove your SIM card too!

It's an ideal chance for the ECDSA to be able to put together funds to support a club project so drop those old phones off at the club shop whenever you can.
