Henderson made to pay tribute to Tribute!
The Grecians Business Development Manager, Bruce Henderson, is well known for having plenty to say for himself. However, this week saw him open mouthed with nothing to say but sorry, as City's St James' Centre management made him wash his mouth out after his unforgivable mistake in the Shrewsbury issue of the match day magazine.
Claiming to be just checking if anyone read the magazine, the shandy swilling southern softie claimed that not only was he a friend of the stars but that his favourite pint was a certain nut brown foam from Branscombe.
Having been instrumental, along with Justin Quick, in bringing St Austell Brewery to the club, the Sampford Peverell bar propper has had plenty to say about the merits of a pint of the brewery's Tribute Ale, especially when served straight from the barrel - until it came to print however, when he made his scurrilous claim to preferring another brew.
Andy Gillard, the club's Operations Manager, said, "It just goes to show how low these Commercial people will stoop, I expect he had just been given a free pint of the other brew and felt he had to claim it as a favourite. Everyone knows the scoundrel loves Tribute and drinks at least a hogshead of it for breakfast every day".
St Austell executives are considering if any further punishment is due and a full bar tribunal is to be held when Danny Crabb, the brewery Area Manager, reurns from holiday. Meanwhile Pete Wilkie, who handles the Grecian Account for St Austell, says the washing out will suffice whilst they ponder any further forfeit.
Our picture shows Justin Quick and Chris Fahy supervising Smiler applying the mop and bleach to the Henderson's ample beer holder. "I just hope people stop phoning the club now about my lack of moral fibre" said Bruce, adding, "It's an honour to deal with St Austell Brewery. There is no truth in my previous claim about preferring another brand and which I now withdraw unreservedly". Henderson, from Mid Devon, is aged 127.
