East Devon Grecians' Great Work Continues

Posted on: Fri 24 Apr 2009

Exeter City are indeed blessed with having wonderful supporters. With not far short of 2000 fans making the trip to Brentford for the recent League game, it is also the work that goes on behind the scenes that makes the club's supporters the envy of the lower leagues.

Recently the Supporters Club raised thousands to buy the new pitch covers that proved so invaluable during the recent cold and wet spells. Then the North Devon Grecians provided the funds to replace the catering hut at the Away End, a vital input.

Not to be forgotten is the Executive 100 Club, who do great work in supporting particularly the Centre of Excellence, and of course the superb Junior Red Army who bring on the club's younger
fans.

Now the East Devon Grecians, a thriving branch of supporters, well over 100 members strong, have stepped up to the plate by making the club's training facility at The Cat and Fiddle, their pet project.

The work done this year, apart from the work done on dealing with season ticket renewals, Football in the Community mail shots and a host of other jobs at St James' Park and sponsoring the match against Port Vale, is almost too long a list to print!

Four days a week, members are making soup and pasta for players meals after training and plan are afoot for the summer months to fit sinks, paths, tanks and water systems at the Cat and Fiddle.

If any other club can boast such a group of supporters who do so much for the club they love, it would be interesting to hear from them. As President Kennedy almost said, "Ask not why my club can do for me but what I can do for my club!" With fans like these, it is hard to see Exeter City being denied the progress such selfless support deserves.
