Grecian Voices - Recent finds with Andy Fuller
So we were successful on the pitch and also off it with the Grecian Voices project having seen some great Grecian memorabilia making its way into the club.
Let me also take this opportunity to remind everyone that we continue to work on this project throughout the year…no summer holiday for us!
First up is this fantastic picture dating c.1906/8.
Anyone want to see a return to compulsory headwear at matches?
It was bought into the club by Julie Mitchell, wife of Grecian legend Arnold and shows a very rare early image of the crowd for a match against Norwich.
The photo holds a special resonance for Julie as it shows her grandfather, Jack (centre of picture, second row back), himself a life-long Grecian and a very happy man when Julie married Arnold in 1958!
Does anyone else recognise family or friends in the picture? We love to see old pictures, especially for those taken before 1960 and if you have any images of matches, the stadium, players on the pitch or even on their days-off, then please get in touch because your old images really help bring this project to life
Next in this month was this Share Certificate which was issued in 1951.

Worth the paper it's written on?!
For the princely sum of £1 you could have been the proud holder of one Exeter share.
These certificates turn up occasionally and the Supporters Trust is very keen to track down the holders of these £1 certificates. They where issued at various times over a period of many years, so if granny or granddad has one lurking at the back of their wardrobe, let us know.
Thirdly this book has been donated to the Grecian Voices cause by friends of the club, the Farley family.Detailing matches between 1956 and c.1965 it is a beautiful example of a 'fan' created artefact. The book lists City's opponents, team line-ups and formation, scores and crowd figures.

The best English homework for a schoolboy?
This type of unique find is great for our project, as it helps to show how intensely passionate people feel towards their club. This is your club an I am sure that many of you out in the stands today will remember working on similar things when you were younger…or maybe you still do.
Today stats are virtually instant, you can have them churning out of your computer with a tap of a few keys; but what of the past?Fewer and fewer people remember the matches, yes we have programmes for many of them, but they are written before the match and even with the best will, occasionally they are wrong.
Please keep up to date with the Grecian Voices project through the official club website and look forward to many more unique parts of our club history surfacing, many more lost photographs and fascinating objects and hopefully many more good memories.
