Taylor: We Let Ourselves Down

Posted on: Mon 07 Sep 2009

Captain Matt Taylor admitted City just weren't good enough after an inept 90 minutes in Kent.

"We let ourselves down and we are disappointed for the fans that travelled to watch us as well," he said.

"It is probably the lowest the changing room has been since I have been here to be honest with you.

We have to hold our hands up and say we weren't good enough today. The whole squad can say that apart from probably the keeper.

He couldn't do anything about the goals and we haven't helped him out by conceding a penalty so early and then the second goal as well.

We seem to be conceding early goals at the moment. It was a soft goal to concede and, away from home at a place like this, it puts you on the back foot as you try get back into the game.

The goals are coming from mistakes, but, in terms of the performance, all the lads are devastated with that. Everyone knows it wasn't a good enough performance.

We didn't keep the ball well, we didn't defend well and we let them have too much possession.

They aren't a bad team and have some good attacking players especially and they seemed to be able to turn and run at us at will with some sharp players. But we have to be better in all aspects.

I think at any level if you make mistakes like we have you will get punished. Even with those mistakes in the Conference we'd have been two down.

It was hard for Fleetwood and he will get sharper but we let him down today. We didn't give him the service he deserved.

It is not the end of the world, we have lost two on the bounce now but that is the worst we have played by a long way.

We have to pick ourselves up and have a good week's training and Leyton Orient is a massive game for us next week now.

We need to put in a performance and need to stand up and be counted.

We have to bounce back."
