After the hustle and bustle of the transfer window last week managers across the Football League have had a chance to assess their options and take stock ahead of the loan window opening next week.

And last season Paul Tisdale made the most of this opporunity and loaned in Stuart Fleetwood and Alex Russell during this period.

The pair both played their parts in the club's second successive promotion and Tisdale was asked on Thursday whether he will be trying his luck again in the loan market.

"There is a potential that we may do," he admitted.

"But again football changes so quickly. After Saturday's game (against Southampton at home) there may be or there may not be.

"There is a possibility it may happen and we may do it if we need to and when necessary. We will see."

That replacement, Troy Archibald-Henville, was someone the fans and management knew plenty about and the manager admits that factor played a big part in his decision.

"It was a choice between trying to secure Troy and maybe signing a player we weren't wholly sure about," he said.

"We took the option to pay an undisclosed fee for Troy and we knew exactly what we were getting with him and he knew exactly what he was coming into."

"Fortunately the opportunity arose right at the end, like it always tends to do, and we grabbed him while we could! He is going to be a good player for us."

Tisdale also admitted he was pleased with how the window worked out for the Grecians, with only one of their players being purchased and his replacement being signed on deadline day.

"I'm definitely pleased with the ins and outs over January," he said.

"We have also been making sure we aren't losing focus on our own players as well."

With Tottenham having scrapped their reserve team and being able to take their pick from a long line of international defenders for first team selection young players in Troy's situation are often sent out on loan spells and Tisdale admits making the permanent move is a big change.

He said: "First of all he has to settle into a permanent situation after being temporary for a long time and with that comes a distinct change of feeling.

"This is now his home so there will be a settling in period. There is a big difference when you have signed somewhere and it is your home.

"Hopefully he has made the right decision in terms of him becoming a better player. There have been more than one player who has moved on from here in the last two or three years to Championship level at least from our defenders and maybe Troy is the next one."
