Pitch In Gains New Support

Posted on: Sat 27 Feb 2010

The success of the Trust's latest fundraising initiative Pitch In for City will only be possible with the full weight of support of the Exeter City faithful. To date, the Club and Trust have enjoyed the Support of fans groups such as the Disabled Supporters' Association and more recently the Exec100 club, who have both pledged £1000 to the campaign. Following this support, the Trust is delighted to announce that it has received further backing from a new fans group.

This new group was set up by a number of regular away match travellers, who decided to form the group in response to the Pitch In for City campaign. This new fans group, aptly titled "Pitch In, Fork Out" was formally inaugurated en route to City's recent away match at Millwall and consists of 13 members who have together pledged to raise £1000 towards the campaign. Pitch In Fork Out's nominated treasurer Martin Weiler said: "As a group of fans, we decided that we wanted to get together and pledge our support for this campaign. We have already seen through our recent success just what is possible as a fans owned club.

"And as a fans owned club, we feel it is only right that we each do our bit to help bring the club forward".

The Pitch In Fork Out group plans to raise their total in a number of ways and have in fact already raised their first funds towards the campaign. Martin Weiler said: "Following our trip to Millwall, we already have our first funds which of course we are hoping to build on through various fundraising schemes such as car boot sales, quiz nights and other fundraising schemes".

Pitch In Fork Out was the idea of City fan Ollie Sproston, who together with his dad Adrian, have attended all of City's away matches this season. Talking about the group 12-year-old Ollie from Yeovil said: "We wanted to do our bit to help the club. I help my dad on a match day with the mascots and we see first hand how bad the pitch is, especially at the moment. If we can all work together as fans we can help improve that pitch and hopefully help the players improve as well".

This new fan group currently consists of 13 members, many from outside of Exeter. Speaking of the efforts of this group Trust chairman Denise Watts said: "It is fantastic to hear that a group of our fans have clubbed together like this in support of the campaign. If more fans did the same I am sure this whole campaign will be a huge success".

"The support of fans such as Ollie is truly inspirational, and I would hope that many of our fans out there will take Ollie's example and support the campaign in a similar manner."

With Exeter City's recent postponed match against Bristol Rovers, the importance of a new pitch has never been more evident, and anybody who would like to contribute to the initiative may do so online via the Trust website, or pledgers can fill out a donation flyer, which are also available from the club reception.

Fans are also reminded that they can pledge support for the campaign on a match day via the main club reception. Donations can also be received via the website where fans can donate via paypal, or download a donation form.
