James Norwood scored the only goal for Exeter City Reserves as they beat Eamonn Dolan's Reading at Farnborough FC's ground.
The 19-year-old scored a simple finish for his second goal of the season for a young City second string.
The home side hit the bar in the second half after brilliant play from substitute James Rowe but City held on to secure yet another totesport.com combination league victory.
French midfielder Bertie Cozic was taken off after just half an hour after he picked up a dead leg while Craig McAllister partnered Stuart Fleetwood up front.
Cozic partnered Neil Saunders in the centre of midfield, before being replaced by James Berry, with Chris Shephard on the left and matchwinner Norwood on the right.
He recently returned to the club after a successful loan spell at Sutton United and Andy Tillson tonight spoke of his delight at the youngster's match-winning performance.
"I am very pleased for him. he said.
"James worked his socks off tonight and he deserved the goal.
"He had chances last week against Southampton but it didn't quite fall for him so I'm delighted he got one today.
"A shot fell to him nicely and it was an easy finish really but you have to be in the right place."
If clubs such as City loan youngsters out to teams above a certain level in the football period they become ineligible for reserve matches during this loan period. So while Lewis Tasker (on loan at Bridgwater Town) started for the Grecians Elliott Frear (on loan at Tiverton Town) could not.

That was also the case for Norwood who played for Sutton from late November until February while training everyday with his City team-mates.
And Tillson believes the loan spell, where Norwood scored three goals from 11 starts, will be a priceless experience in the youngster's development.
"He does work very hard and the loan has been great for him," he said.
"Sutton United were fantastic. I spoke to their manager regularly and he did a lot of work with James as well which was good."
"He now needs to just keep working hard as a player."

Former City manager Eamonn Dolan managed the inexperienced Reading side and he told their official site how playing against McAllister and Fleetwood et al will be a useful learning experience.
"Exeter were the best team in the first half and caused us problems, they were very experienced and that will be a great learning curve for our young boys," he said.
"The second half was much more open and we created plenty of chances, we are disappointed to lose but there were plenty of positives and it will do the guys a world of good to come up against the likes of Fleetwood and McAllister."
Meanwhile the Under 18s lost on penalties in the semi-final of the Football League Youth Alliance Cup this afternoon after a 2-2 draw.
