Edwards Praised By Skipper & Fans

Posted on: Thu 25 Feb 2010

Exeter City's Rob Edwards picked up your Man Of The Match award after receiving 34% of votes in the 24 hours following yesterday's match.

Edwards once again excelled at the heart of City's wing-back system and post-match his captain Matt Taylor, who finished second in our poll, paid tribute to his performance.

"I'm not sure he is getting any older," he joked.

"He gets better and better he really does. His reading of the game and when to go and drop off is excellent and we need that experience.

"We needed to be strong as a defensive unit and Rob Edwards was outstanding again.

"He is playing with no front teeth and he is in a lot of pain. It is probably the worst facial injury you can get in football so fair play to him."

Edwards, along with Alex Russell, Marcus Stewart and Andy Marriott, adds some experience to the City side and Taylor believes this knowledge makes the 37-year-old is a priceless squad member.

"All you can do is learn off people like Rob," he admitted.

"The way he looks after himself to be able to be in that physical condition at, no disrespect to him, his age is outstanding.

"The older players at this club do all look after themselves so it is a good example.

"I wouldn't say I am a younger lad but with a lot of career infront of me. And you have just got to take their points of view and listen to them as much as you can because their experience is priceless."

In third place with 12.8% of the votes was home debutant Joe Burnell while Adam Stansfield, Scott Golbourne and Richard Duffy all picked up plenty of votes.
