Barry & Marcus Leave Tis Short Of Options

Posted on: Thu 25 Feb 2010

Exeter City's pool of forwards reduced again this afternoon after Barry Corr was sent off and Marcus Stewart's injury flared up.

Adam Stansfield found out this week that he will need minor surgery and will be ruled out for the best part of the month and now today's starting duo will be missing for Paul Tisdale.

Stewart had returned to the starting line-up after missing the last few games but his hamstring injury forced him to leave the field after just 15 minutes.

Post-match Tisdale said: "Marcus' injury was his hamstring that he did a few weeks ago, that doesn't look good does it?

"It gives me huge problems upfront, I need to think about a lot of things over the next couple of days."

Corr has been handed a five match ban by the FA meaning he will have missed 12 matches this season through suspension.

"And of course I feel sorry for Barry," Tisdale said "It is going to seriously dent our prospects in the next five games.

"I feel for him but he allowed the opportunity to happen, they took it and the referee gave the red card."

Barry Corr's third red-card of the campaign has divided opinion amongst supporters with some believing it was the correct response from referee Phil Gibbs.

But his manager said he knew when the tackle went in what the verdict would be.

"As soon as he did it I thought 'that's going to be a red card' because it is the way things are going for us," he said.

"I'm not going to say it wasn't a red card. I was about five yards from it and had a close a view as anybody, it looks to me like he tried to block it and left his foot there and the lad followed through and they both kicked each other.

"As soon as the whistle blew I thinking 'red' due to the environment we are in, the fact we are a goal down and their fans are out of their seats."

Tisdale will have been boosted by the positive performance from Stuart Fleetwood who joins Richard Logan, Ben Watson and Craig McAllister as Tisdale's available forwards.

And a few of the strikers pushing for selection will no doubt be looking to impress for the reserves this week when they take on Swindon at The Park on Tuesday. (7pm kick off)
