Bulked Up, Excited & Ready To Score Goals

Posted on: Mon 19 Jul 2010

Young striker James Norwood has been at the club for almost a year now since his joining from Eastbourne Town and the 19-year-old believes he has improved significantly as his second season at The Park approaches.

His rise from Isthmian League Division One South football to being thrown in at the deep end at Elland Road last summer was Roy Of The Rovers stuff and after the other strikers returned from injury he spent a loan spell at Sutton United.

Norwood, who scored against Clevedon in midweek as well as netting in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Millwall, told the Official Website on Wednesday what a great experience the spell at Sutton was and he was also full of praise for the role Paul Tisdale has played in his development.

"The loan move last year was brilliant and definitely a good move for me with a chance to play against very different teams," he explained.

"The manager was really good to me as well, he has helped me come on a long way and given me a lot of confidence.

"He helps you through a lot of things which can be talking you through situations or pulling you aside and saying what he expects from you and how you can do it.

"And at the same time he says about working on it after training. So I get a couple of players out to help me do that."

Clevedon vs Exeter City Pre Season 019

As fans attending pre-season games may have noticed Norwood has worked on his physical presence in recent months which, combined with his electric pace, should make him an even more dangerous prospect in the final third.

And you get the impression that he can't wait to get out there and experience League One football again, especially against the neighbours down the road

He said: "I'm really looking forward to the season. I've heard a lot about the Plymouth game in particular and I'm yet to experience to that so it's the biggest and best one this season.

"Pre-season has gone well, I've got on the scoresheet so it's looking good so far.

"I've been holding the ball up as well which is something I wasn't so good at last year.

"I feel fit and I have bulked up in the gym as well so I'm excited about pushing on this season and scoring some goals."

If he does that there will be thousands more in red and white just as excited as City's promising number 31!
