Ryan was signed from Blue Square South side Weston-Super-Mare in December 2007,after impressing whilst on a two week trial at Exeter and appearing in the reserve team. A former Bristol City youngster, he gained a full contract and made his Football League debut at Port Vale in August 2004. Released at the end of the 2006-07 season, Ryan did spend a short time on trial at Exeter prior to the 2007-08 campaign, only to sustain an injury.
He then linked up with Weston-Super-Mare, and has now signed a longer term contract with the Grecians.
