Paul Tisdale's Post Match Views

Posted on: Mon 12 Dec 2011

After his Exeter City side lost in the league for the first time since October Paul Tisdale spoke to the Official Website.

"It was disappointing. If you asked me about the performance - it wasn't our best. We were too deep first half and didn't do the basics well enough.

I thought we had a good start to the second half on the back of what I'd asked them to do. The players applied themselves to it and the turning points were Liam's shot off the post and the first penalty.

In the last 20 minutes we weren't good but we had gone behind, we were fragmented and had no real flow.

We covered the pitch first half and we were too deep.

The team has to balance each other and there has to be some sort of agreed pattern to the side and today we didn't find one that suited everyone.

But that is what happens when the team changes and I decided to change the team a little on the back of the last home game and I'll have some thoughts before the next game.

Obviously the Liam Sercombe shot was the closest we came, and it was very close.

I think the players were bemused why it (the first penalty) was given. I can only go on what they felt out on the pitch - I couldn't see it.

When you have the ball in your box as much as we did today those things invariably happen. We spent too much time defending our box.

It was disastrous defending for the second and third goals.

We have to be pragmatic, it isn't the end of the world but there are enough subjects there to focus on and discuss for Scunthorpe."
