Who are the Senior Reds?

The Senior Reds group was launched in January 2012 by Steve Perryman MBE and has City legends Alan Banks and Jimmy Giles as our founders and patrons.
There is no defined age limit to join the group so membership is open to all long standing Exeter City supporters.

As of March 2022 the Senior Reds have over 130 members.

You can join for only £5 for a year (although some members choose to donate a little more) and then you can enjoy our programme of guest speakers, social activities, volunteering opportunities and receive an emailed copy of our regular Senior Reds bulletin.

The Senior Reds have their own Facebook page.

What do the Senior Reds do?

We hold monthly meetings which always begin with an opportunity for members to have an informal chat over a tea or coffee and a couple of biscuits. That is usually followed by a guest speaker. These have included Alan Banks, Jimmy Giles, Graham Rees, Eric Welsh, John Wingate, Graham Parker, Bob Wilson, Keith Bowker, George Ley, Steve Flack and World Cup Final Assistant Referee Mike Mullarkey amongst others. Speakers from the club’s current squads have been Matt Taylor, Pierce Sweeney, Archie Collins and Abbie Britton. We even had Zoom meetings with Richard Logan, Jamie Cureton, Phil King and Kevin Nicholson during lockdown.

Social events have included an annual visit to the training ground, pub lunches, quizzes, sharing a table in hospitality at St James Park before a match and developing relationships with similar supporter’s groups from other clubs e.g. Torquay United.

Some members volunteer to maintain the strip of land between St James Road and the car park so that visitors have a good impression on their arrival at the stadium. Also some members, in conjunction with a group of local residents, have maintained the vegetation at St James Park railway station.

What is the membership fee spent on?

One of the Senior Reds aims is to help encourage and support the younger generation of fans and players so in this regard we sponsor a different under-16s player each season. To date these have been Jordan Dyer, Lewis Wilson, Max Clarke, Sonny Cox and Philip Mendonca.

We also frequently fund or contribute towards a variety of Exeter City activities or respond to one-off requests from the club. Recent examples of these include a donation to Exeter City’s Women’s team, funding of two televisions for the new Cliff Hill training ground facilities, as well as contributions towards the purchase of a defibrillator there and the restoration of Arthur Chadwick’s grave (City’s first professional Manager).
