Sonny is a two footed, goalscoring striker who came up through the academy from a young age.
Sonny was regularly involved with the under-18 squad during the 2019/20 season and has progressed into the First Team training squad since returning for the 2020/21 season.
At the age of 18, Sonny was handed his League One debut in August 2022, and scored his first professional goal in October of the same year as he netted against Oxford United at St James Park.
The 2023/24 League One season saw more opportunities for Sonny in red and white. After flourishing in a loan spell at National League South side Yeovil Town, Cox was recalled to SJP to lead the line, netting the winning goal on Boxing Day against Wycombe Wanderers, before following up with another goal just ten days later against Carlisle United.
