Children get the chance to meet their Grecian heroes
Aspiring young shot stoppers in the Exeter area got the chance to meet their City heroes on Monday night as James Hamon, Christy Pym and Bobby Olejnik turned up to their awards presentation evening.
The children, aged from seven to 14, all attend Heavitree Social Club on a Friday night to take part in goalkeeping coaching sessions run by Gillian Burgess.
Gillian, a qualified keeping coach, covers all aspects of shot stopping from technical, tactical, physical and mental development and she was delighted the City players were able to come to their awards evening.
“As a grassroots coach it’s great to be supported at our awards evening by the Exeter City goalkeepers,” she said.
“The young lads really enjoyed the evening and we are grateful for Christy, Bobby, James and Mel (Gwinnett) for taking the time out of their schedule to be with us.”
The players took the time to sign autographs at the event and take part in a question and answer session. They also took the time to invite the young keepers along to their open goalkeeping trials at the club on Sunday, January 29.
The awards winners on the night were as follows:
Perpetual award: Matt Brown
Most improved: Dylan Parker, Beck Finnemore
Top trainer award: Sam Whiffin
Recognition awards – gold: Matthew Trueman, Liam Stevens. Silver: Charlie Greenaway, Sam Middlebrooke. Bronze: Jake Fryer.
Outstanding recognition awards for the goalkeepers who were accepted by Exeter City performance centre: Matt Brown, Coby Smith, Josh Hunt
