Luton Town match is City's designated One Game One Community match
Dementia is the focus at Exeter City’s specially designated One Game One Community match at home to Luton this Saturday (26 November)The Football Club, Exeter City Supporters Trust and Exeter City’s Football in the Community team have been working in partnership with the Exeter Dementia Action Alliance and the national equality organisation Kick it Out to raise awareness of dementia at the match. The event also has the backing of the Exeter City Disabled Supporters Association.
Activities on the day will include:
- The players and officials warming up in Kick It Out T-shirts with a message from the Exeter Dementia Action Alliance (EDAA).
- Specially invited guests including people with dementia and their families and carers.
- A stall in Red Square promoting the work of EDDA.
- Features on dementia in the official match day programme.
- A bucket collection for EDDA.
- Exeter City Council signing up to be members of EDDA at halftime.
The Exeter Dementia Action Alliance is a small group of people raising awareness of dementia and working towards a dementia friendly city. It is a membership organisation wishing to inspire organisations and businesses to join them in making practical changes.
EDAA lead Gina Awad said “We are really grateful to everyone at Exeter City for supporting our work. The response by the football club and by all our other members across the city has been so encouraging. They all share our aspirations for a Dementia Friendly Exeter".
Exeter City Football Club, Exeter City Supporters Trust and Exeter City Football in the Community are all members of the EDAA. As part of their commitment they have already held two Dementia Friends workshops for staff and supporters.
Exeter City Supporters Trust’s One Game One Community Group is part of the national Kick it Out campaign which promotes equality and inclusion and counters discrimination in football including race, disability, gender, age, religion and sexual orientation.
