25 October 2016

Martin appointed at first meeting of new Trust Board

Martin Weiler has been elected as the new chair of Exeter City Supporters Trust. His appointment came at the first meeting of the new Trust Board held last night (October 24).

Martin said: “First of all I want to pay tribute to the massive contribution made by my predecessor Laurence Overend. He has shown exceptional leadership in his four years at the helm and the whole Trust is immensely grateful for the way he has championed supporter ownership at Exeter City.

“I am deeply honoured to be chosen as Laurence’s successor and pledge to do all I can to maximise the voice and influence of the Trust.

“We have so much to be proud of but really can’t be complacent for a moment. We will need to harness all the energy, skills and volunteering spirit that we have amongst our membership to help the club we all love flourish.”

Introducing new Trustees
The Supporters’ Trust also welcomed three new Trustees to the board: Ex-City player Sean Devine, Matthew Philips and Clive Harrison. Paul Farley, Neil Le Milliere and Martin Weiler were all re-elected and Peter Holding returns to the board after the required year break.

Trust club board representatives
Elaine Davies, Paul Farley and Peter Holding have been re-elected to the Club Board. Martin Weiler will join them as Trust chair.

Paul Farley has been re-elected as lead of the Community Group.

The Trust board agreed to set up a new working group to cover PR and communications. Pete Martin has agreed to co-ordinate the first meeting.

AGM Resolutions
The Trust board actioned the three AGM resolutions as follows:

Election campaigning: This will be discussed at a meeting on November 3 to review this year’s elections.
Manager’s contract: This will be pursued with the Club Board.
Business plan: This will also be pursued with the Club Board.

Trust secretary
This was Nick Hawker’s last meeting. Nick was thanked for his immense contribution to the Trust. The recruitment of a new secretary is ongoing. We would be delighted to hear from anyone interested in doing the job. In the meantime, Trustee John Kanefsky has kindly agreed to carry out the secretarial duties until Christmas at the latest.
The next meeting of the Trust Board will be on November 14.
