Ollie Watkins Wins Football League Young Player Of The Month

19 April 2016

Award covers all three Football League divisions

EXETER CITY's Ollie Watkins has won the Football League's Young Player of the Month award for March.

The award covers players that play in all three divisions of the Sky Bet Football League, and has previously been won by current established Premier League stars including the likes of Stephen Caulker, Jonjo Shelvey, Jay Rodriguez and Charlie Austin.

Ollie is the first Exeter City player to win the award, which was first awarded to Victor Moses in December 2009.

Ollie burst onto the first-team scene with four goals in six games across the month, including strikes against Portsmouth, Cambridge United, Notts County and Crawley Town. His form hasn't slowed down since, with his memorable brace to win the Devon derby against Plymouth Argyle followed by a goal in the win at Yeovil Town.

He was presented with the award by manager Paul Tisdale at the Cliff Hill Training Ground last Thursday.

"It's a great feeling to be recognised for the hard work that I've put in, and I'm very grateful for that," Ollie said. "I've been playing since I was nine years old, and I'm twenty now, so that's a lot of football. I've been glad to get the opportunity in the first-team. I'm having a great time this season, and things like this are a bonus. I have a lot of people believing in me, and I believe in myself. Hopefully I can keep this form going."
