Ex-Academy man to become new skipper
Exeter City manager Paul Tisdale has confirmed that Scot Bennett has been named the new Exeter City captain.
The 23-year-old wore the armband for the second half in the friendly fixture against Reading on Tuesday evening, and will now be the new skipper. Scot had his first experience wearing the armband away at Accrington last year, and also captained the side on final-day victory at Hartlepool. Pat Baldwin, who captained the team in the other half, will continue his role as vice-captain.
Bennett, from Newquay, graduated from the Academy at the Cat & Fiddle in 2008 but didn’t make his professional debut until coming on as a sub in March 2011.
Over the past three years, Scot has steadily risen to become one of the first names on the teamsheet and he missed only one of Exeter’s first-team fixtures last season, as well as featuring in the under-21 side. He surpassed 100 appearances for the Grecians during the last campaign, second only to midfielder Liam Sercombe, and has 15 goals to his name.
Scot demonstrated a tremendous level of versatility last season, as he made appearances at centre-half, full-back, central midfield and as a forward for the Grecian cause during an impressive campaign.
