The 23-year-old joined on a two-year deal and linked up with the Grecians following his release from Scottish Premiership side Motherwell.
Aitchison is a product of the Celtic youth system and in May 2016 became the youngest ever player to represent the Bhoys in a competitive match aged 16 years and 71 days. In scoring in that game, he subsequently became the youngest ever scorer - a record that still stands.
During his time with the Glasgow club, he had important developmental loan spells at Dumbarton and Alloa Athletic, before joining Forest Green Rovers on a season long loan in September 2019.
He'd go on to score five times for the Gloucestershire outfit in 28 games, before joining Barnsley on a three-year deal in October 2020. He had two further loan spells at Stevenage and again at Forest Green. He scored last season for the Tykes - his last in January 2023 in a 3-1 win over Accrington.
