Baldwin’s Brazil Blog – Day 9

27 July 2014

Playing footballl against the cricket club

Breakfast was again early today with an 8.30am team meeting to inform us of the day’s schedule.

The coach left for Rio Cricket Club at 10.00am with a brief stop off at a nice little beach not too far from the ground.

The beach was nice but I could imagine it is 100 times better if the weather wasn't overcast and windy.  The temperature was actually really cold – something that took me completely by surprise although we are in the middle of the Brazilian winter!

The remainder of our fantastic fans were again in force, and after the game we were each presented with a commemorative badge with the date that we played Fluminense.  An absolutely lovely touch from them and something I will keep with pride.

The game itself was another intriguing encounter with the hosts winning the first half.  I must admit, I was taken completely by surprise at how good the team was.  They started to tire in the second half and we managed to win the game with Jimmy scoring yet again and a goal apiece from the two youngest members of the squad – MJ and Ollie.

Our wonderful hosts laid on a fabulous BBQ for us after and next was an evening of Samba for us to sample the real Brazilian culture.  Finally we get some well-deserved time off to enjoy this amazing place!
