Hundreds of children and adults play at the Park at the season’s end
Exeter City Football Club once again gave hundreds of adults and children from the local community to get out on the pitch at St James Park before renovation work began on Sunday 5th May.
The Grecians ended their home campaign with a 2-0 win against Scunthorpe United on Saturday 26th April, and the very next day the club’s Football in the Community (FITC) charity hosted a 6-a-side tournament in aid of Prostate Cancer UK, the Football League’s partner charity.
FITC also hosted their Teignmouth Development Squad – who are part of Exeter City’s progression pathway – as they played out their version of the Devon Derby. They faced Plymouth Argyle’s Ivybridge Development Squad on the St James Park pitch.
And then later in the week FITC also hosted an inclusion Junior Disability Football event in conjuction with Active Devon, as young boys and girls from across the county spent five hours playing on the pitch.
The East Devon Youth League, Exeter & East Devon Schools, the Exeter & District Sunday League and the Exeter & District Youth League all played their cup finals at the Park over the course of the week, giving the chance for children and adults alike to enjoy their competitive matches in the confines of a Football League stadium.
Mike Radford, football secretary at Exeter City, said: “The standard was extremely good throughout the week and the games were very competitive and played in the right spirit. It really was a good advert for local football.
“I’m sure all of the kids will have gotten a lot of pleasure and satisfaction from playing at St James Park – and we as a club were more than delighted to host them.”
