City Supports Dementia Awareness Week

17 May 2016

Find out what you can do this week

PART OF Exeter City’s mission to increase awareness of Dementia is by becoming more Dementia-friendly, providing help and information for fans and followers.

This week is Dementia Awareness Week, and valuable information can be found by clicking on the link through to the Alzheimer’s Society. Please take a moment to visit their website here.

Over half (56%) of people are putting off seeking a dementia diagnosis for up to a year or more, a study carried out by Alzheimer's Society has found. Dementia is the most feared health condition in the UK, perhaps explaining also why almost two-thirds of people surveyed (62%) felt a diagnosis would mean their life was over.

Volunteer as a Dementia Friends Champion

Dementia Friends Champions are trained volunteers who encourage others to learn a little bit about dementia.

Champions run Information Sessions in their community and inspire others to help those living with dementia live well.

'Really inspiring day being trained as a Dementia Friends Champion, can't wait to deliver my first session.' – Michael White, Dementia Friends Champion
