59 youngsters apply for 21 shadow roles
City have been caught out by the phenomenon that has become Kids In Charge 2017.Organiser Richard Knight has had to switch operation recovery into full speed, so that as few children as possible are disappointed.
Richard said: "Whilst in some ways it is a nice problem to have, this year the number of applications to shadow roles has nearly trebled to a staggering 59 junior applicants. The 59 asked to take part in over 230 roles. One child applied for all 21 posts and at the other end of the spectrum 14 applied for one specific opportunity
“During the application process the number of posts on offer was increased from 15 to a record breaking 21. We are now trying to find extra opportunities to minimise any disappointment.”
Of the 59 applicants, 22 were members of the Junior Grecians. The very active Football in the Community coordinated Junior Grecians are also operating on record numbers this season with their full and varied programme. Julian Tagg, Exeter City chairmain said: "City continue to work hard at throwing our doors open to welcome new supporters and in particular families who will be the next generation of fans.
"The success of Kids in Charge 2017 and the re-launched Junior Grecians confirms the club’s commitment to attracting a family audience with face painting, magic shows, free or discounted ticket offers to children, local clubs and Baden Powel organisations."
Every post offered received an expression of interest. The top requests were to be Mascot with Grecian the Lion (27) and scoreboard operator (21). High profile roles as Junior Chair and Junior Director were requested by 23 youngsters.
The Club is working feverishly to create further posts and hopefully all offers made to successful applicants on Tuesday/Wednesday.
